Sally Henry Memorial Award Winner—1999
Chris Wilson
by Marsha Rosen
Chris Wilson's commitment to community activities began very early. During the war, as a young Scottish schoolgirl, she was convenor of the Sunshine and Social Committee of Christian Endeavour. She had the honour of being presented to the Queen Mother to receive a Wings of Victory award for her poetry.
Chris will stop at nothing to realize her dreams. As a young girl she cried every day imploring her parents to let her learn how to dance. A few years ago, her dream came true when she took up tap dancing. She pursued another dream by seeking a profession in later life. She studied Home Economics as a mature student at Humber College. When she finished her studies, she was hired by Faye Clack. She is presently a Senior Account Executive at Faye Clack Marketing and Communications.
In her work she applies her excellent skills to many tasks, including communication with media personalities. She acts as a spokesperson for the agency's clients on radio and television across Canada and she is always an enthusiastic and welcome guest. As a result of her ingenuity and creative flare in food styling, her work is regularly acclaimed and reproduced in features by food and lifestyles editors. Chris also has experience as a freelance writer with the Hamilton Spectator and other publications. Chris takes great pride in her work. Promoting products is a 24-hour-a-day job and she is the first to go beyond the call!
She is the member of several professional associations including CHEA, OHEA, OHEIB, THEA, the International Association of Cooking Professionals and the Toronto Culinary Guild.
Chris is a dynamic and very giving person. She has many interests outside her profession. She was a founding member of the Burgundy Brigade. She is also a member of the board of the Woodbridge Fair, one of the oldest country fairs in Southern Ontario. She helps with all aspects of the fair with all her might and enthusiasm.
Always active, she played netball as a child at school and while raising her three daughters, she kept fit by walking two miles every day with a friend.
If you need a friend, you can count on Chris. Very unselfish, she always puts others needs before her own. Chris is very family-oriented; her mother lives at home with her. She is also very busy being a grandmother.
Anyone who knows Chris feels privileged. She is a very special person and, like her sister says, “kindness all over the place”. We are very proud to count Chris as one of our members and extend to her our warmest congratulations.
