I'm not sure what Wendy's middle initial is, but it seems to me that T for traveler would be extremely appropriate. Many of us have lived vicariously through hearing of Wendy's numerous trips around our globe. A few ports-of-call include Greece, Scandinavia, Russia, Antarctica, and of course, the United States and Canada. But Wendy doesn't just go, she does pre-and post-research. You know, just the way we all say we wish we could do it. Wendy doesn't wish, she makes it happen.
Wendy has served as a wonderful role model for many of us in this profession. Causes both professional and cultural have benefited from her involvement. As a supporter of all things cultural our province has to offer, Wendy's scope is very eclectic - music, ballet, theatre, museums. Her volunteer activities are numerous - as a sampler, the Barnes exhibit, program for the Toronto Culinary Guild, involvement in the CHEA upcoming convention activities and volunteer for the World Curling tournament
On a professional level, we have Wendy and her mentor, the late and esteemed Sally Henry to thank for pioneering the metrification of Canada. That must have been some project! Honest Wendy, we know it's for our own good!
On a personal level, Wendy fulfils the role of a devoted sister (to her sister Eleanor), aunt and doting great-aunt with her characteristic gentleness.
One of the nomination comments we received was “Wendy has always done everything in such a refined, enthusiastic and kindly way”. I am sure we can all attest to that sentiment as it applies to Wendy.
It is most fitting that this very special peer award be given this year to a woman who looked up to Sally Henry (in the intellectual sense not the physical sense) for whom this award is named.
Wendy, we thank you for all of the contributions you have made to our profession and to our society. On behalf of the Association of Ontario Home Economists in Business, I am delighted to present you with the Sally Henry Memorial Award.
