Sally Henry Memorial Award Winner—2001
Olga Kaminskyj
by Carol Gulyas
It is an honour and pleasure to present the 2001 Sally Henry Award to Olga Kaminskyj whose enthusiasm for life and diverse interests are reflected in the way she lives her life and her commitment to the Home Economics profession.
Olga is the epitome of what we should all be striving for in both our professional and personal lives - as Home Economists, women, family members, friends, mentors and members of our world community.
I know Sally would have been proud to be here this evening to present this award. Like Sally Henry, Olga has mentored others and given freely of her time and expertise. I know if I call her with a question or perhaps a dilemma or needing help, she will get back to me as soon as possible with sage advice and a very positive YES. She is a very sharing and caring person.
Olga graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Food Sciences. She started her career as a company Home Economist and then opted for the freelance world in 1980 and hasn’t looked back! Olga specializes in food styling for print and film and recipe development and testing. Her creative and artistic talents as well as her attention to detail and hard work have made her well respected as a Professional Home Economist.
Olga has served on committees of her professional associations. She was Co-chair of OHEIB in 1996-97 and is now a member of our Board of Directors. She also dedicates time and energy to her church, community and her children’s endeavours.
Olga is a dedicated wife, mother and daughter; her family comes first. Together with her daughter, she volunteered her time at Winterfest 2000, the celebration for women and children who are living at Women’s Habitat and those who have moved on and are in the outreach program.
Olga, you are a most worthy Home Economist to receive the Sally Henry Award for 2001. Enjoy the rose bowl for your year and place your framed award in a place for all to see, but mostly for you, so that every time you look at it, you will remember the esteem that your peers hold for you.
