MEETING NOTICE
2008 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & AWARD PRESENTATIONS
OHEIB is pleased to announce Margaret Howard as the winner of the 2008 OHEIB Hall of Fame Award. Marg has had a long and distinguished career. She has worked for Canada Packers, Consumers Gas, Lipton’s; taught night school and freelanced for various companies. Marg has authored and co-author many cookbooks (a total of 16) of diverse topics—barbecuing, preserving, and foods for babies and toddlers. She and co-author Marjorie Hollands have written 4 menu/recipe diabetic cookbooks that have become best sellers and are still being revised and updated. Marg has mentored many home economists, been involved in all the home economics associations, including co-chairing OHEIB with Shirley Ann Holmes in 1979-80. The Hall of Fame Award recognizes individuals with outstanding career accomplishments. We invite everyone to honour Marg on this occasion.
The Sally Henry Award will be presented to a Home Economist involved in our profession who pursues personal and volunteer interests. This award is always a surprise!
The OHEIB Student Rep Awards will be presented to 3 volunteer students, one from Ryerson's School of Nutrition and Food; the University of Western Ontario, Brescia College, Human Ecology; and the University of Guelph, Family Relations and Applied Nutrition programs. This Award recognizes their interest in pursuing the business aspects of food and nutrition.

Yellow Brick House is OHEIB’s charity this year, as chosen by Barb Holland, our 2007 Sally Henry Award winner. Yellow Brick House is a non-profit organization in York Region committed to providing safe shelter and support services for women and their children in crisis as a result of abuse. It also provides ongoing counselling for women and their children; information and education about the effects of abuse on women, their families and the community.
As per the Spring Newsletter, please bring the following items (in good condition). We will have baskets available to fill with lightly used or new items and will divide the items between the Yellow Brick House and The Outreach Store.
The following are some of the things on the Yellow Brick House Wish List:
- Toilet paper and paper towels, household cleaning supplies, laundry detergent and bleach
- Can openers to put in food boxes for women leaving the shelter
- Plastic containers for food storage
- Diaper wipes, baby monitors, diapers - size 4, 5 and 6
- Umbrellas. batteries, waste baskets, table lamps
- Running shoes – women and children
- Track suits – women and children
- Pajamas - women and children
- Bed sheets – all sizes, blankets
